ADMAPE continue to be highly active in initiating and facilitating large-scale community actions, also supported by state agencies, to attempt to reduce the bird devastation of crops through chasing them away. This very time-consuming activity is now starting to have an impact meaning much less crop loss.
Thirty-one women’s co-operatives have been helped this year to set up and run successful market gardens. The production of high-in-vitamin sweet potatoes has been introduced (producing 72 tons from 6 hectares) and seed for the production of 45 tons of onions was distributed. The keenness of these 700 women to set up their market gardens and access the organisational and managerial training partner ADMAPE provide is remarkable. Over four years due to our work the number of women’s market garden co-operatives has increased from 12 to 70.
